Sophie Deegan

As an art and design student my work is split between disciplines, but sometimes there is an overlap.  I have learned a mixture of new techniques and processes and some of my past projects have addressed themes such as family, place, urban decay, floral and body image. I have worked with a range of media and approaches including installation, samples, drawing, text and digital portraits and this has helped my development as an artist.

I am currently exploring the insecurities women have about their bodies.  This has involved researching different age groups and asking questions regarding their thoughts about body image. Using sound recordings and audience participation, I would like the viewer to feel empathy with the women I have interviewed. My intention with this piece is to trace the development of attitudes to the body from childhood onwards and to examine how we change and develop as mature women.
